PIGMENTED LESIONS / SKIN REJUVENATION

What is hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation better known as brown spots, age spots, liver spots and freckles found on your face, chest and hands, are all caused by over production of melanocytes. Melanocytes are the cells that cause the dark pigment in your skin which is the bodys natural sunscreen.

What are the causes of hyperpigmentation?

Without question, the number one cause of brown spots is overexposure to the sun!  Other factors such as hormonal changes and certain illnesses and medications can also cause this condition.

How does the Laser work on the brown spots?

Our trained healthcare professional will apply a laser to the area.  The laser beam is absorbed by melanin (pigment) causing destruction of unwanted cells.  The nurse will then take gauze and gently wipe off the brown spot.

Is the treatment painful?

Pain is minimal.  There is a slight sting or a “snap of a hot rubber band” sensation over the area being treated. feeli

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments sessions depends on the size, location, depth and color of the lesion.  Most age and sun spots generally only need one or two treatments based 4 weeks apart.

Is there any downtime?

No, the majority of brown spots are removed instantly during your laser session.  Larger, darker pigmented spots may take a few days to “shed off” the layer of dead skin.

Is this treatment permanent?

Yes, the pigmented cells are destroyed by the laser on contact.  If you have sun exposure to the area you are at risk of developing more brown spots.  Sun-avoidance and sunblock is the key if you want your skin free of sun spots.
