What is Dermaplaning?

This safe and highly effective physical exfoliation procedure removes the top-most layer of dead skin along with fine vellus hair, also called “peach fuzz.” Dermaplaning will reduce the build-up dead surface skin leading to more vibrant and even skin tone and texture. It’s more aggressive than a microdermabrasion, but similar to a peel, without the downtime!

What are the benefits of dermaplaning?

  • Temporary removal of “peach fuzz” covering the face, leading to more vibrant and even skin tone and texture.
  • Removing the epidermal skin also allows products to penetrate more readily into the deeper layers of the skin.
  • Increase the production of collagen and elastin to fight signs of aging
  • Hyperkeratosis reduction. Dermaplaning will reduce the build-up of dead surface skin that causes acne.
  • No downtime, immediate results

Who is the best candidate for dermaplaning?

  • Dermaplaning is beneficial for patients with rough, dry skin; superficial hyper pigmentation; mild acne scarring and those with fine lines and wrinkles. However, it is not advised to those with acne

How is dermaplaning performed?
After cleansing your face, our skin care specialist will use a small, surgical blade to gently scrape the surface of the epidermis with light, feathery strokes. Dermaplaning will remove dirt, oil , dead skin cells and vellus hair, leaving the skin smooth and vibrant!

What can I expect?
There is no recovery time associated with the procedure, you will not leave with red or irritated skin. Make-up and other facial products can be applied immediately following dermaplaning.

Will my vellus hair grow back thicker, faster, or darker?
No, the procedure does not trigger hair follicles. The light vellus hair that you may have on your faces will grow back at the same rate and texture and color as before the treatment.

How often can this procedure be performed?
Dermaplaning will remove about 3 weeks worth of dead surface skin cells so it is best to wait around 3 to 4 weeks between procedures.

Please stop any Retinol or glycolic products 72 hrs before treatment.

Laser Hair Removal

How does laser hair removal work?

The laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. This light beam passes through the skin and targets dark pigment called melanin. When the beam hits the melanin in the follicle, the intense heat destroys the hair follicle. The end result is permanent hair reduction.

What are the advantages of this procedure?

Unlike waxing, after your sessions are complete you should be virtually hair free.  Hair that does grow back will be lighter and thinner in texture.

How many treatments are needed?

The number of treatments will vary since everyone’s hair grows differently depending on age, weight, metabolism, hormones, ethnicity, medications and other factors. Interestingly, not all hairs are growing at the same time. Hair is in one of three distinct phases of development which are anagen (active), catagen (transitional) and telogen (resting). The laser only works on follicles in the active growth phase. On average it takes a series of 4 to 6 treatments spaced 4 to 12 week apart to guarantee permanent hair reduction.

Is this treatment painful?

Most clients tolerate the procedure well. Some clients feel a slight burning or stinging sensation as the laser pulse is delivered. Topical anesthetic cream can be applied one hour prior to treatment on any area of the skin. In addition, our laser systems have a powerful skin cooling device incorporated into the hand piece. Cold compresses or soothing gels can also be applied after treatment.

What can I expect after treatment?

Immediately following the laser treatment, you may notice some minor redness, swelling or tenderness. It’s OK! These side effects are minor, and are totally normal. During the next few weeks it may appear that you have new hair growth, but it is actually the shedding of the dead hair. After the hair is shed you should be virtually hair free until the next cycle of hair growth.

Is it permanent?

Yes, 90% of hair follicle destroyed by the laser will never return.  Any hair follicles not completely destroyed by laser will grow back lighter and finer in texture. Blonde, gray or red hair cannot be destroyed by laser, for those colors we recommend electrolysis. This is another form of permanent hair removal we offer at the spa.

Broadband Light Treatments

Skin Rejuvenation

What is Hyperpigmentation?
Hyperpigmentation better known as brown spots, age spots, liver spots and freckles found on your face, chest and hands, are all caused by over production of melanocytes. Melanocytes are the cells that cause the dark pigment in your skin which is the body’s natural sunscreen.

What are the causes of hyperpigmentation?
Without question, the number one cause of brown spots is overexposure to the sun! Other factors such as hormonal changes and certain illnesses and medications can also cause this condition.

How does intense pulse light work on brown spots?
Our trained healthcare professional will apply a BroadBand Light (BBL) to the area. The light beam is absorbed by melanin (pigment) causing destruction of unwanted cells. In the next few days the brown spots will continue to darken and eventually flake off your skin.

Is this treatment painful?
Pain is minimal. There is a slight sting or a “snap of a hot rubber band” sensation over the area being treated.

Is there any downtime?
No. The brown spots may appear darker and you might have some redness after the procedure but very minimal.

Is this treatment permanent?
Yes, the pigmented cells are destroyed by the laser on contact. If you have sun exposure to the area you are at risk of developing more brown spots. Sun-avoidance and sunblock is the key if you want your skin free of sun spots. Sunblock with high levels of zinc ( 7% or higher) is recommended since this is considered a ture sunblock nor a sunscreen. Higher levels of zinc sunblock are pharmaceutical grade and can be purchased in a medispa or dermatologists office.

Facial Veins

What are Facial Veins?
Facial veins better know as telangiectasias are unsightly dilated blood vessels in the outer layer of the skin. They usually are found on the nose and chin and can spread to the cheeks. On the legs they are called spider veins.

What are the causes of Facial Veins?
Facial veins can be caused by a variety of factors, the most common being prolonged exposure to UVA sunlight and Rosacea. Heredity, hormone therapy and normal aging process also play a role in the development of these veins.

What is the treatment for Facial Veins?
Facial vessels are most effectively treated by laser and often several different laser systems are used in combinations.  La Bella Medispa offers two systems, the Nd:Yag and KPT  to ensure optimal results.

Is there any downtime with this procedure?
The use of laser on telangiectasia causes minimal downtime. You will be red and swollen on the area treated but the swelling usually subsides within 24hrs.

Is this treatment painful?
Laser Facial Vein treatment has been described as a sensation of a quick snap with a rubber band against the skin as the laser passes over the vessel. A topical numbing cream can also be prescribed if needed.

How many treatments are needed?
The number of treatments vary on the disease process, the condition of the skin and the severity of the facial veins. On average, about three treatments are required. The veins that are destroyed by laser will not return. Depending on your lifestyle habits and the disease process new vessel can surface.  We highly recommend daily use of sunblock to help prevent future damage.

Chemical Peels

This popular peel has been around for many years. This is considered the “lunch time peel” and is considered a superficial peel. The peel consists of three main ingredients:

Lactic Acid– The lactic acid in the peel accelerates the skin’s cell renewal rate which softens the epidermis (top layer of skin) and stimulates collagen growth.

Salicylic Acid– Exfoliates deep into the lining of the pores to rid of dirt, sebum and debris that an cause blackheads, whiteheads and enlarged pores.

Resorcinol– Breaks down dead, uneven and rough skin, it actively sterilizes bacteria upon contact.

This peel is safe to apply to any body part.  Most popular areas are the face, decolletage, and hands and back.

Your skin is first gently cleansed and oils are removed. Then the Jessner solution is applied. The skin tingles and feels slightly warm as the Jessner solution works. Every few minutes another layer of solution is applied until the desired end-point is reached. Your provider will analyze your skin and determine how strong a peel your skin needs. Unlike other peels, the amount of peeling after your treatment can be adjusted to meet your needs and desires.

Most people experience a slight burning sensation during application.

Minimal downtime with this peel. For 2-3 days after the peel, the skin feels like a layer of plastic film has been applied, and then it exfoliates for an average of 2 to 4 days. Normally, the skin appears windburned, with moderate flaking, but actual peeling is rare. Outcomes will vary depending on method of application, thickness of the skin and the sensitivity of the skin.

Jessner peels are mild peels, but you can get good results with treatments in series for both skin tone/hyperpigmentation and skin texture irregularities. Some patients are happy after one peel but some benefit from a series. You will be sent home with a customized skin care program to reach your desired outcome for healthier, more youthful skin.
